About
Also known as: Hayden Thorpe, Hayden Thorpe performing the songs of Wild Beasts, Hayden Norman Thorpe
Hayden Thorpe spent sixteen years as the frontman of Wild Beasts, the Kendal band that released five albums on Domino Records before calling it a day in 2018. His voice was always the thing that set them apart: high, almost operatic, genuinely unlike anything else around. Since going solo he has put out three records, with Ness being the most recent. As a solo performer Thorpe strips things right back, presenting his songs with just voice and instrument rather than a full band setup. That pared down approach suits music that was always more concerned with texture and feeling than spectacle. If you know Wild Beasts, hearing those songs in that context is something else entirely. If you somehow missed them, this is a perfectly good place to start.
