About
Helena Hauff makes techno and electro that sounds like it was pulled straight from the wiring of some forgotten machine room. Working exclusively with analog equipment, her tracks draw on acid house, EBM and industrial music, keeping things raw and functional rather than polished. Her debut album Discreet Desires landed on Rolling Stone's list of the 20 best electronic albums of 2015, and her DJ sets earned her a historic milestone in December 2017 when she became the first woman ever named BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix of the year. Based in Hamburg, she cut her teeth running a night called Birds and Other Instruments at the city's Golden Pudel Club. She also runs her own imprint, Return to Disorder, which fits neatly with her no frills, hardware driven approach. Her second album Qualm arrived in 2018, and she has kept releasing material since, including the EP Multiply your absurdities in 2024.
