About
Also known as: Hello-Ween, ハロウィン, ヘロウィン
Few bands did more to define power metal than Helloween. Formed in Hamburg in 1984, they helped spawn the genre with their twin Keeper of the Seven Keys albums, which set the template for soaring vocals, galloping riffs and epic song structures that countless bands would spend the next few decades chasing. Their debut full length Walls of Jericho was already pushing into speed metal territory, but it was the arrival of vocalist Michael Kiske that really unlocked their sound. Over the years the lineup shifted considerably, with Kai Hansen departing to form Gamma Ray and Andi Deris eventually stepping in on vocals, yet the band kept releasing records and building a global following. They have shifted more than 10 million records worldwide and earned 14 gold and six platinum awards. Their current lineup brings together surviving members from multiple classic eras, making it something of a reunion decades in the making.
