About
Herman van Doorn is the Dutch voice behind the theme songs that a whole generation of Pokémon fans grew up hearing. Performing under the alias Hermanherman, he brought the iconic animated series to life in Dutch, and that work remains his most recognizable contribution to popular culture. His range goes well beyond cartoon theme tunes though. Trained in jazz vocals and improvisation at the Conservatory of Utrecht and Berklee College in Boston, he moves comfortably between improvised music, contemporary composed music, pop, and musical theatre. His discography spans several albums, including Fugain from 2010 and 1418 from 2017, the latter with the single For The Fallen suggesting a project with historical weight to it. Singles like Fête Foraine and the French language tracks from Fugain show an artist happy to cross linguistic and stylistic borders without making a fuss about it.
