About
Het Brioso Trio is a piano trio that grew out of friendships made at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. The three of them, pianist Jurn Tjoa, violinist Martine Velthuis and cellist Mathias Pearson, formed the group in 2019 and named it after the Italian musical term brioso, meaning lively and full of fire. The name suits how they play. They perform in the Netherlands and abroad, and a concert tour in Norway marked the start of their breakthrough. International recognition grew when they took third prize in the chamber music competition at the Virtuoso & Belcanto Festival in Lucca, Italy. That result earned them a place in a masterclass with the late pianist Alfred Brendel, and they kept developing their sound at the European Chamber Music Academy. Their repertoire includes works by Gabriel Fauré and Johannes Brahms, and they have also appeared on Dutch public television in the classical programme Podium Klassiek.
