Het Nederlands Filmorkest brings film scores to life by pairing live orchestral performance with projected visuals, so audiences can hear and see the music exactly as it was intended. The ensemble specialises in Italian cinema music, drawing on composers from different eras to build programmes that span the full emotional range of the genre. Their repertoire includes Ennio Morricone's work on Once Upon a Time in the West and The Hateful Eight, Nino Rota's The Godfather, Nicola Piovani's tender score for La Vita è Bella, and the sparse, pop inflected compositions Ludovico Einaudi wrote for Nomadland. That last choice is telling: the orchestra is not shy about programming music that blurs the line between classical and contemporary.
