About
Hideki Yamaha is a professional lute player who specialises in the music of John Dowland, the Renaissance composer (1563 to 1626) who wrote some of the best known pieces ever made for the instrument. He is not the type to just let the notes do the talking. In performance he likes to explain the lute itself and the music he plays, so a listener who has never seen a Renaissance lute up close still gets something out of it. He is a relatively recent arrival in the Netherlands, having moved here not long ago. That makes him a fresh name on the Dutch early music scene, and he has been looking for chances to play for new audiences, including free afternoon concerts in historic church settings.
