About
Also known as: ヒラリー・ハーン
Hilary Hahn is the kind of classical violinist who treats genre borders as suggestions. She has played with Josh Ritter and Tom Brosseau, recorded songs with the rock band...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, and made a fully improvised album called Silfra with German pianist Hauschka. Her take on it: she doesn't cross over, she just steps into other people's worlds. The foundation is serious, though. She made her orchestral debut at 12 with the Baltimore Symphony, later played Carnegie Hall with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and has won three Grammys. She loves commissioning new music, with concerti by Edgar Meyer and Jennifer Higdon written for her, and her albums tend to pair old and new, like Beethoven with Bernstein or Tchaikovsky with Higdon. She also runs relaxed concerts for parents with infants, and Classic FM once ranked her among the 25 greatest violinists ever.
