About
Hillbilly Shakespeare is a five piece band built around the songs of Hank Williams, and the name is a nod to one of Hank's own nicknames. He wrote lyrics that could hit hard and make you laugh in the same verse, and the band plays that material in the original stringband setup: steel guitar, upright bass, electric and acoustic guitars, and fiddle. The set is full of the classics, think Jambalaya, I Saw The Light and Your Cheatin' Heart. Three of the members also play in The Wieners, but here they each pick up a different instrument than usual, which gives the whole thing a fresh feel. You don't need to know Hank Williams to enjoy it. If you like country, Americana, folk or early rock 'n roll, this is right up your alley.
