About
The sole driving force behind Norwegian black metal act Taake, Hoest has been running that project largely on his own since the mid 90s, writing, recording and performing everything himself. What started as a band called Thule in 1993 became Taake two years later, and the name Hoest, Norwegian for 'autumn', stuck ever since. His first major statement was a trilogy of concept albums circling around death, Norway, and the devil in man, closing out in 2005 with Hordalands doedskvad. Taake's 2011 album Noregs vaapen pulled in some serious company, featuring Attila Csihar, Nocturno Culto, Demonaz and Ivar Bjørnson, and earned a Spellemann nomination. Nine studio albums in, the most recent being Et hav av avstand from 2023, Hoest keeps Taake running on his own terms. He also fronts Gorgoroth and Old Man's Child as live vocalist and plays in Deathcult.
