HOLLY ANN is the stage persona of Holly Hergelink, a British Dutch artist from The Hague. The name stands for something deliberate: where Holly the person tends to keep others happy, HOLLY ANN says the things nobody else dares to. That tension between compliance and defiance runs all through her music, which sits somewhere between pop and rock and carries a cinematic, theatrical quality that makes it feel closer to a film score than a radio hit. Her influences range from Kate Bush and David Bowie to Ethel Cain, and her lyrics pull together religion, feminism and the supernatural, retelling age old stories through a female lens. Her debut single Call Me Eve hands Eve a voice and questions the suppression of women within religious tradition, summing up her whole outlook pretty neatly: whatever anyone else decrees, a woman is the authority over her own body and life.
