About
Holy Blood are a folk metal act out of Kyiv who have been doing their thing since 1999, and they occupy a genuinely unusual corner of the genre: they are one of the very few openly Christian bands in folk metal. Their sound pulls from Ukrainian folk traditions and Celtic music, with ethnic instruments woven through death and black metal textures. Over the years they have shifted styles several times, moving from hardcore through deathgrind and melodic death before landing on the folk metal identity they are known for today. Six studio albums in, including The Wanderer, Waves Are Dancing, The Patriot, Shining Sun, Day of Vengeance and Voice of Blood, they have built a following well outside Ukraine despite remaining an underground act. They have played festivals in Switzerland and Finland, toured Belarus, and have been distributed internationally through Texas label Bombworks Records. Through constant lineup shuffles, founder and guitarist Fedir Buzylevych has been the constant thread holding it all together.
