Hot Mulligan have been quietly building one of the most devoted followings in the emo underground since forming in Lansing, Michigan. Their sound pulls from pop punk, math rock, and midwest emo, giving it a technical edge without losing any of the gut punch emotional directness the genre is known for. Their 2020 album You'll Be Fine is a fan favourite, but 2023's Why Would I Watch, released on Wax Bodega, showed the band pushing further into their own distinct territory. The lineup solidified in 2024 when touring bassist Jonah Kramer officially became a full member, and the band kept busy with the Warmer Weather EP. Their fourth album, The Sound a Body Makes When It's Still, arrived in 2025, continuing a streak of consistent output that covers studio records, acoustic releases, and lo fi reimaginings of their own catalogue. They even wrote a theme song for AEW wrestler Kyle Fletcher, which is exactly the kind of left field move their fanbase has come to expect.
