Say the name out loud and you get the idea: Hovvdy, pronounced "howdy", is an Austin indie pop duo made up of Charlie Martin and Will Taylor. Their sound sits somewhere warm and unhurried, and they have been quietly building a strong catalogue since their debut full length Taster came out in 2016 on Double Double Whammy. A split with Lomelda, where the two acts covered each other's songs, showed a real sense of community in their corner of indie. By 2019 they had already dropped two albums in a single year, with Heavy Lifter following close behind Cranberry. True Love arrived in 2021, then a self titled fifth record through Arts and Crafts in 2024, signalling a new chapter for the duo. Recent singles like Forever and Jean hint at a slightly more polished direction while keeping that easygoing emotional core very much intact.
