About
Hugh Sung is a Korean American classical pianist who has built a career that stretches well beyond the concert stage. He spent years on faculty at the Curtis Institute of Music, eventually rising to Director of Student Recitals, and has performed alongside violinists, flutists, and composers including Hilary Hahn, Jeffrey Khaner, and Jennifer Higdon. His recordings appear on labels like Naxos and Albany Records, and his collaborative touring has taken him across the US, Canada, South America, Japan, and South Korea. What sets Sung apart is his genuine enthusiasm for technology in classical music. He was an early adopter of Tablet PCs as digital score readers, rigged up his own foot pedal page turning system, and in 2008 co founded AirTurn, a company that makes wireless page turning pedals now widely used by musicians. He has also explored live visual performance through a concept he calls the Visual Recital, blending particle generators and visualization software with live playing.
