About
Human Fortress hail from Hanover, Germany, and have been flying the flag for epic power metal since the late 1990s. They even have a name for their own sound: "epic battle metal." Their debut album Lord of Earth and Heavens Heir got them on the map after a talent contest run by a German metal magazine, where their track "The Dragons Lair" was voted favourite by online fans. That buzz landed them a record deal, and the rest followed from there. Defenders of the Crown came next on Massacre Records, featuring guest appearances from members of Galloglass, King Leoric, and Meridian Zero. The band went through a turbulent stretch of lineup shuffles and a lengthy hiatus, but bounced back in 2013 with singer Gus Monsanto and a deal with AFM Records. They have since put out Thieves of the Night, Reign of Gold, and the two disc retrospective Epic Tales and Untold Stories, which includes new material alongside reworked classics.
