Amsterdam based rapper I AM AISHA, born Aisha Echteld, carved out a distinctive space in Dutch hip hop by doing things her own way. She writes all her own lyrics and operates independently, which she credits as the key to her success. Her 2015 track Zulke dingen doe je, a collaboration with Dio, became her biggest hit and racked up over 16 million views on YouTube, earning her a gold certification. Earlier work with Jebroer on Herrie in me oor also broke a million views and helped build her profile. She signed with Top Notch around 2014 and followed up with a string of releases including Hey boy, Je bent meer, and Bitches. Her 2016 collaboration Squat with Faya and F1rstman spent 25 weeks in the Top 100, proving she had staying power well beyond a single viral moment.
