I - F

About

One track from 1997 did a lot of the heavy lifting for I f's legacy. "Space Invaders Are Smoking Grass" became a huge underground dance hit, bolting old school verse and chorus structure onto burbling electro and a vocodered love letter to the Atari era. It's widely credited with kicking off the electroclash movement. The Hague producer and DJ, real name Ferenc E. van der Sluijs and also known as Interr Ference, followed it with the albums Fucking Consumer in 1998 and The Man From Pack a year later. His 1999 mix album Mixed Up In the Hague Vol. 1 turned out to be just as influential, with Morgan Geist among those who point to it as the spark for a renewed interest in Italo disco. He turned up on the 2002 Ghostly International compilation Disco Nouveau, has recorded as The Parallax Corporation with Intergalactic Gary, and runs the label Viewlexx. He also operates Intergalactic FM, which now houses his old internet station CBS as one of its four channels.
