Ian Siegal has spent decades carving out a reputation as one of Britain's most serious blues voices, blending raw electric blues with Americana in a way that feels genuine rather than genre tourism. His 2009 album Broadside was picked by MOJO magazine as blues album of the year, and his debut on the Nugene label, Meat and Potatoes, earned a rare four star rating in the Penguin Book of Blues Recordings. At the inaugural British Blues Awards in 2010 he won Best Band, then kept collecting trophies across categories like Best Male Vocalist, Best Album and Best Song before being inducted into the British Blues Awards Hall of Fame. Some of his most compelling work came out of trips to North Mississippi, where he recorded The Skinny and Candy Store Kid with Cody Dickinson producing and players like Luther Dickinson, Alvin Youngblood Hart and Garry Burnside in the room. Both albums landed Blues Music Award nominations. He also took a surprising detour performing Billie Holiday songs with France's Orchestre National de Jazz across festivals in France, South America and East Africa. His most recent album, Stone By Stone, came out in 2022.
