About
The Instant Composers Pool, known as ICP, is a collective that has been making music for over half a century and shows no signs of slowing down. The ensemble draws on the compositions of jazz giants like Thelonious Monk, Herbie Nichols and Duke Ellington, weaving those alongside original pieces by members including Misha Mengelberg, Michael Moore and Guus Janssen. What sets ICP apart is the guided improvisation at the heart of their sound: ten musicians who read each other instinctively and turn each performance into something unrepeatable. The current lineup brings together Janssen on piano, Moore on clarinet and alto saxophone, Ab Baars and Tobias Delius on clarinets and tenor saxophones, Mary Oliver on violin and viola, Harald Austbø on cello, Thomas Heberer on trumpet, Joost Buis on trombone, Ernst Glerum on double bass, and Han Bennink on drums.
