About
Ig Henneman is a Dutch violist who works at the intersection of composition and free improvisation. She turned 80 in 2025, a milestone that prompted a substantial celebration: two book publications documenting her life and work, including a collection called Songs for Improvisers, as well as a cd release. Her compositional output spans pieces for mixed ensembles, including the work Ballade for accordion and mezzo soprano. Since 1999 she has been one half of Duo Baars Henneman alongside tenor sax, clarinet and shakuhachi player Ab Baars, a partnership built around adventurous, freely improvised music. The duo has performed extensively across the Netherlands and abroad, and in 2025 marked twenty five years together.
