About
Illian Walker, who records as Ils, came up through LTJ Bukem's legendary Good Looking Records before finding his own lane in the breaks and electronic scene. Adam Freeland signed him to Marine Parade off the strength of his distinctive breaks production, and the resulting albums showed real range. Idiots Behind the Wheel drew heavily on electro, funk and techno, while Soul Trader dialed things back to a more even, measured feel with fewer peaks and valleys. That second album also gave him a brief chart moment when the single Next Level crept into the UK Singles Chart at number 75 in early 2002. He has also put his stamp on Distinct'ive Records, mixing an entry in their Y4k compilation series.
