About
Named after the 1979 film Caligula, Imperium Dekadenz built their identity around the violence, decadence, and imperial grandeur that film portrayed. The two core members, Vespasian and Horaz, met entirely by chance when Horaz gave Vespasian a lift to Wacken, and a shared demo tape sparked the whole thing. They released their debut in 2006 and have steadily grown into one of Germany's more serious atmospheric black metal acts, moving from the French label Season of Mist to Napalm Records in 2018. Their 2013 record Meadows of Nostalgia took a turn inward, addressing their home region of the Black Forest lyrically, while Dis Manibvs in 2016 wrestled with themes of mortality. When We Are Forgotten arrived in 2019, and their most recent album Into Sorrow Evermore came out in January 2023. The band has also been outspoken about keeping politics out of their music, publicly distancing themselves from their original label after discovering its ties to right wing extremist acts.
