About
One of the first extreme metal acts to come out of Singapore, Impiety has been a relentless force in black, death and thrash metal since forming in 1990. Driven by founding member Shyaithan on vocals, guitar and bass, the band built a cult reputation through underground tape trading before signing deals with labels like Osmose and Agonia. Their 1999 record Skullfucking Armageddon was the real breakthrough, picked up by French label Drakkar and Germany's Iron Pegasus Records and backed by extensive touring across Asia and Europe. Impiety's lineup has shifted constantly over the years, pulling in musicians from Mexico, Thailand and across Southeast Asia, which gives the band a genuinely international flavour despite their Singaporean roots. Their 2004 album Paramount Evil stirred controversy over lyrical content referencing Auschwitz, though Shyaithan was clear that the band's stance is anti religion rather than political. The band has kept releasing material and playing live, with tracks like Carbonized and Torment in Fire showing they have lost none of their raw, abrasive edge.
