About
Based in Utrecht, Insomnio is an ensemble that builds concert experiences around the relationship between space, sound and collective feeling. Their programmes often place the audience inside the music rather than in front of it: in James Wood's Solstice, for instance, the ensemble spreads out around the listeners to form a spatial sound network. They also bring a sharp focus to solo voices within that larger texture, as in Torstensson's Violin Concerto, where a single melodic line moves through a landscape that shifts between lyricism and raw energy. The result is concert music that feels genuinely physical and shared rather than purely observational.
