About
Iris Hond is a Dutch pianist, composer, singer and songwriter who trained as a concert pianist but has steadily pushed that world into unexpected territory. Rather than sticking to recital halls, she has performed in prisons, homeless shelters and reception centres, translating people's stories into what she calls 'musical letters', original compositions built around real human experiences. Her albums include a classical debut featuring Chopin and Rachmaninov, followed by Dear World in 2016 and Home in 2020, both built from her own compositions. Between 2013 and 2016 she spent time in the United States working with producer Patrick Leonard, known for his collaborations with Madonna, Leonard Cohen and Pink Floyd. The influence of contemporary composer Ludovico Einaudi is audible in her later work, and she has shared the stage with Einaudi himself, alongside harpist Lavinia Meijer and the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest. Beyond performing, she regularly gives motivational speeches, weaving live music through them to show what she means rather than just talking about it.
