Ireland's only professional period instrument orchestra, the Irish Baroque Orchestra has been bringing early music to life since 1996. Under artistic director Peter Whelan, they perform on historically informed instruments, and their annual Handel's Messiah concerts have become a genuine fixture in the Irish musical calendar, regularly selling out. They record on Linn Records, with their disc Welcome Home Mr Dubourg among their releases, and they hold a residency at the National Concert Hall in Dublin as well as returning each November to the Ardee Baroque Festival in County Louth. In 2022, they took home the Outstanding Achievement in Opera prize at the Laurence Olivier Awards for their production of Bajazet at the Royal Opera House, a remarkable moment for an Irish ensemble on the international stage.
