Iron Horse is a bluegrass band out of Killen, Alabama, best known for taking rock and heavy metal songs and reimagining them with banjos, mandolins and acoustic strings. Their "Fade to Bluegrass" series puts Metallica songs through a full bluegrass treatment, which sounds like it shouldn't work but absolutely does. The band also landed spots on the Van Halen tribute album Strummin' with the Devil, sharing tracklist space with David Lee Roth himself. Beyond the covers, Iron Horse has pushed into original material as well. They released a self produced all original Christmas record called Small Town Christmas, showing there is more to them than genre novelty. The current lineup features guitar, banjo, mandolin and bass, with members trading off lead, tenor, baritone and bass vocals across the group.
