Chicago and Brooklyn based saxophonist Isaiah Collier has been one of the most talked about voices in contemporary jazz, leading his band The Chosen Few through a remarkably prolific run of releases. Six albums between 2018 and 2024 tells you something about his work rate, ranging from Return of the Black Emperor to the double release year of The Almighty and The World Is On Fire in 2024. Downbeat Magazine flagged him as one of the top 25 rising jazz stars in 2024, which feels about right for someone operating at this pace and intensity. His spiritual and cosmic leanings are all over his titles, nodding to a lineage that connects directly to John Coltrane, whose A Love Supreme he paid tribute to in a concert marking the album's 60th anniversary.
