About
Also known as: Ivan Podymov
Ivan Podyomov is the principal oboist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, one of the most prestigious orchestral posts in the world. The Russian born player made a serious splash on the competition circuit before landing there, winning the ARD International Competition in Munich, the Geneva Competition, and the Prague Spring International Competition, among others. That last win also came with a special prize for his performance of the Martinu oboe concerto, a work he has clearly made his own, as his recordings with the Tokyo Philharmonic confirm. As a soloist he has worked alongside conductors like Yuri Bashmet and Claudio Abbado, and shared the stage with chamber partners ranging from the Hagen Quartet to Sabine Meyer. He also teaches at the Hochschule Luzern Musik, and his YouTube channel offers a great window into his playing, from Britten to Mozart to Couperin.
