About

Ivo Janssen is a Dutch pianist from Venlo whose work spans classical piano repertoire with a particular affinity for impressionism and baroque. He is perhaps best known in the Netherlands for his involvement with Simeon ten Holt's Canto Ostinato, a cornerstone of Dutch musical heritage. Together with the Mallet Collective, Janssen recorded the piece at the Concertgebouw and performed it both at home and abroad, in a version for piano, marimbas and vibraphones where the clarity of the keyboard blends with the warm resonance of the percussion instruments. Janssen's path took an unexpected turn when he had to have his left little finger amputated due to Dupuytren's disease, keeping him off stage for a period. His return brought him back to Canto Ostinato, a work that suits this new chapter well. Those who have seen him perform it describe a musician playing with obvious joy and conviction, drawing listeners into the piece's hypnotic cycles of time and repetition.
