J Hus, born Mamadou Lamin Jallow in Stratford, London, is widely credited with pioneering Afroswing, the genre that blends African rhythms with UK rap and dancehall energy. He first caught attention in 2015 with 'Dem Boy Paigon', a track described as bringing together Afrobeat sound with lyrical rap, and followed it with the platinum certified 'Did You See', which hit number nine on the UK Singles Chart. His debut album Common Sense landed in 2017 to serious critical praise, named the best UK album of that year by Complex. His second album Big Conspiracy, released in January 2020 with features from Burna Boy, Koffee and Ella Mai, went straight to number one. Then in 2023, the Drake collaboration 'Who Told You' peaked at number two in the UK, leading into his third album Beautiful and Brutal Yard, which also debuted at the top of the UK Albums Chart. He has since launched his own label, Militér Music.
