About
J:Me, real name Khant Zin Ko, is one of the defining figures of Myanmar's underground hip hop scene. He started performing at park rap shows around Kandawgyi Lake, built a following alongside rapper Ye Lay, and broke through with the track 'Burn Em Up', which namechecks US artists like Nas, Fabolous, and Ryan Leslie while also giving a nod to Bangkok as a hub for Southeast Asian hip hop. His song 'Born to Win' was picked as the official anthem for Myanmar athletes at the 2013 Southeast Asian Games, which says a lot about how far his reach extended beyond the underground. After stepping away from music in 2014 to deal with addiction, J:Me came back in 2018 with the album A Mwe Sar A Mwe Khan, meaning 'Inheritance', a personal record about his transformation released through Sun Music Production. He has also written columns for the Myanmar Times and produced films. More recently, a 2023 mixtape called 'It Is What It Is' and a 2025 collaboration with Hein Gyii show he has no intention of slowing down.
