Jack River is the project of Australian singer, songwriter, and producer Holly Rankin, who grew up in Forster on the New South Wales coast. Her sound sits somewhere between psych tinged electropop and surf influenced indie pop, and she handles a lot of the production herself, which gives her music a distinctly personal, self made feel. Her debut album Sugar Mountain, named after the Neil Young song, came out in 2018 and hit number 11 on the ARIA Albums Chart. It earned three ARIA Award nominations and drew on some genuinely heavy personal material, including the loss of her sister. Her second album, Endless Summer, arrived in June 2023. NME described it as a psychedelic cruise through pop shaped by surf rock and shoegaze, with lyrics painting an oddly compelling picture of an apocalyptic world.
