Jah Cure has one of the most distinctive voices in reggae, a smooth yet powerful instrument that made him stand out even before his career truly took off. Born in Hanover, Jamaica, he got his name from fellow artist Capleton, and his first real break came in 1997 with the duet "King in This Jungle" alongside Sizzla, produced by Beres Hammond. Hammond became his mentor and guided much of his early studio work. What makes Cure's story remarkable is that he recorded three albums and several chart topping singles in Jamaica entirely from prison, where he served eight years before being released in 2007. His comeback album "True Reflections...A New Beginning" dropped just three days after he walked free. Since then he has kept building his catalog, with "The Cure" (2015) hitting number one on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart and earning a Grammy nomination, and "Royal Soldier" (2019) also debuting at the top of that same chart on VP Records.
