Jaime Martín wears two hats as a Spanish conductor and flautist, and he's worn both at the highest level. As a flautist he held principal positions with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and made his Carnegie Hall solo debut in 1991 playing Nielsen's Flute Concerto. He has recorded chamber music with the Gaudier Ensemble, the Brindisi String Quartet, and Pinchas Zukerman, among others. His conducting career has taken him across three continents. He served as chief conductor of the Gävle Symphony Orchestra and led the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland before stepping down at the close of the 2023 to 2024 season. He has been music director of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra since 2019, a post he will hold through the 2026 to 2027 season before becoming music director laureate. Since 2022 he has also been chief conductor of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, with that contract running to 2028.
