With over 100 film scores to his name, James Newton Howard is one of Hollywood's most prolific composers, earning nine Academy Award nominations along the way. He got his start in the industry as a session musician and keyboardist for Elton John, arranging strings on hits like "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" before pivoting to film music in the mid 1980s. His early breakthrough came with Pretty Woman and a first Oscar nod for The Prince of Tides, and he hasn't slowed down since. Howard has a knack for long creative partnerships: he scored eight films for M. Night Shyamalan, including The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs and The Village, and eight for Francis Lawrence starting with I Am Legend. He co composed the Batman Begins and The Dark Knight scores alongside Hans Zimmer, handled the entire Hunger Games series, and brought the Fantastic Beasts trilogy to life. A Grammy and an Emmy sit on the shelf too, rounding out a career that spans pretty much every genre Hollywood can throw at a composer.
