Janine Jansen is a violinist who sits comfortably at the very top of the classical world. Her playing carries a powerful stage presence and a charisma that draws listeners deep into the music, whether she is tackling the dramatic weight of Shostakovich's First Violin Concerto or bringing fresh life to a beloved evergreen like Beethoven's Violin Concerto. She has performed the Shostakovich alongside the Münchner Philharmoniker and their chief conductor Lahav Shani, a work she seems especially suited to: its dark opening, biting Scherzo, and raw finale demand exactly the emotional intensity she brings. Chamber music is just as central to her work. She has a long standing partnership with pianist Denis Kozhukhin, performing Beethoven's complete violin sonatas together for audiences around the world. The music publication Bachtrack called them a perfect pair, and their collaborations have included the Fifth, Eighth and Ninth violin sonatas.
