Jazmine Sullivan has one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary R&B, and her debut album Fearless announced that fact loudly when it hit number one on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart back in 2008. That record gave the world "Need U Bad", which spent 34 weeks at the top of the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart, and "Bust Your Windows", which Stevie Wonder later called a classic. Sullivan co wrote and executive produced much of that debut alongside Missy Elliott, which set the tone for a career defined by real creative ownership. She kept building from there, with Love Me Back and Reality Show both earning strong critical responses, the latter picking up three Grammy nominations. Then came Heaux Tales in 2021, which debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 and is widely seen as her finest work, earning her two Grammy wins and a spot on Time's 100 Most Influential People list. Sullivan writes with unflinching honesty about love, heartbreak and self worth, and that directness is what keeps pulling people back.
