Few bands in the screamo world carry as much weight as Jeromes Dream. Formed in West Haven, Connecticut in 1997, they built a reputation for ferociously original music that pulled from powerviolence, grindcore, noise rock, and math rock, all while vocalist and bassist Jeff Smith screamed without a microphone and both he and guitarist Nick Antonopoulos performed with their backs to the crowd. Their split with Orchid, a 10" record shaped like a skull, became one of the defining artifacts of the late 1990s screamo movement. Alongside Orchid, Saetia, and Pg. 99, they are widely considered among the most influential acts of that era. After breaking up in 2001, the band returned in 2018 and recorded a new full length with producer Jack Shirley at Atomic Garden Studios, funded by a crowdfunding campaign that hit 90% of its goal within a single day. A second guitarist, Sean Leary of Loma Prieta, joined in 2021. In 2023 they released "The Gray In Between", their most recent album, showing the band still very much in motion.
