Jesy Nelson spent nearly a decade as one quarter of Little Mix, the first group ever to win the British X Factor, and racked up seventeen top ten UK singles along the way, including five number ones. After leaving in December 2020, citing the relentless pressure of life in a girl group, she signed with Polydor Records and dropped her debut solo single "Boyz" featuring Nicki Minaj, which landed at number four on the UK chart. The album she was working on never came out after a split with the label over creative differences. Her 2019 BBC Three documentary Jesy Nelson: Odd One Out, about her experiences with body image and online bullying, pulled in 3.3 million viewers on BBC One alone and won the Factual Entertainment Award at the National Television Awards. Her second solo single "Bad Thing", released independently in 2023, drew praise from Women's Aid for its domestic abuse themes. She later collaborated with Zion Foster on the 2024 single "Mine".
