JID, born Destin Route in Atlanta, has built one of the more quietly impressive résumés in modern hip hop, known for a rapid, fluid delivery and wordplay that critics keep coming back to. After funding his early career by working call center jobs and delivering pizza, he signed to J. Cole's Dreamville Records in 2017 and dropped his debut album The Never Story to immediate critical praise. His second album DiCaprio 2 continued that streak, with J. Cole appearing on the single "Off Deez" and collaborators including Method Man, Joey Bada$$ and Ella Mai rounding out the record. He reached his widest audience yet with "Enemy" alongside Imagine Dragons in 2021, the opening theme for Netflix's Arcane, which peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100. His third album The Forever Story in 2022 produced the top 40 hit "Surround Sound" featuring 21 Savage and Baby Tate. His fourth album God Does Like Ugly arrived in 2025 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album. Recent uploads suggest he has been active with new material, including a track featuring Eminem and a collaboration with Clipse.
