About
JMO is a trinational trio whose sound connects three continents at once. Kora player, singer and griot Moussa Cissokho from Senegal carries a tradition of West African storytelling stretching back 41 generations. He is joined by Swiss multi instrumentalist Jan Galega Brönnimann on bass clarinet and soprano saxophone, and Israeli percussionist Omri Hason, who plays hang, frame drum and various other percussion. The sparkling tone of the 26 string African harp meets the warm, smoky colour of the bass clarinet, all held together by Hason's rhythmic range. The result sits somewhere between ancient and contemporary, lyrical melody brushing up against pulsing grooves and open improvisation. The group has been touring internationally for over a decade, reaching audiences from Japan to Argentina and from Norway to Israel. Their second album, Dandoula Tala, takes its title from the Mandinka phrase for "no borders", and the compositions are shared equally between all three members, each one reflecting their very different roots and artistic backgrounds.
