About
Johan Luijmes holds the title of city organist, and his influence extends well beyond performing. He was instrumental in arranging a new home for a remarkable Kam en van der Meulen organ built in 1842, originally constructed as a salon organ and later fitted with a pipe front. The instrument spent decades hanging in the dome of Museum Arnhem, where it suffered damage during the Second World War, and was restored in 1968 by the firm Leeflang. Through Luijmes's initiative, the organ found its current place in a concert hall setting, where it can be heard by audiences today. As a classical organist, he brings historical instruments like this one back into active musical life.
