About

Also known as: Johnny Highland

Johnny Hiland is a guitarist from Maine who plays fast, flashy country and blues rock, and he does it while legally blind from an eye condition called nystagmus. He started on bluegrass as one third of a family act called The 3 J's, who won Talent America, before switching to electric guitar and country, rock and blues. In 1996 he moved to Nashville and became a go to session player, putting his guitar on records for Toby Keith, Ricky Skaggs, Janie Fricke, Randy Travis and Trick Pony. He also spent years in Hank Williams III's orbit, appearing on several of his albums. He signed to Steve Vai's Favored Nations label for his self titled 2004 solo debut, followed by Loud And Proud in 2009 and All Fired Up on Shrapnel Records in 2011. Around that time he was putting up studio preview clips of tracks like Barnyard Breakdown and Bluesberry Jam.
