About
Julia Kleiter is a German soprano with a particular gift for Mozart, which makes sense given how much of her career has been built around his heroines. She made her stage debut as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte at the Opéra Bastille in Paris back in 2004 and kept returning to that role across major houses in New York, Munich, Edinburgh and Zurich, plus the Salzburg Festival. Her range goes well beyond Mozart though: she has taken on Strauss roles like Sophie and Zdenka, sung Eva in Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at the Berlin State Opera under Daniel Barenboim, and made her U.S. debut at the Chicago Lyric Opera in Handel's Rinaldo. Kleiter is equally at home on the concert platform, and her recording work reflects that. She has recorded Bach cantatas with Nikolaus Harnoncourt, captured live at the Musikverein in Vienna, and later put down Bach's St John Passion and Christmas Oratorio with the Bachchor Mainz. Her discography also includes Schubert's rarely staged opera Fierrabras, recorded with the Vienna Philharmonic.
