About
Julian Lage was already playing the Grammy Awards at 12, and a short documentary about him, Jules at Eight, had been made years before that. These days he's a guitarist and composer who moves easily between jazz, acoustic duos and the avant garde. His 2009 debut Sounding Point earned a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Jazz Album, and a later guitar duo record with Chris Eldridge, Mount Royal, picked up another nod. He's a prolific collaborator. He's recorded duo albums with Nels Cline, Gyan Riley and Fred Hersch, played in a trio with Scott Colley and Kenny Wollesen, and appears on a huge run of John Zorn releases. Along the way he beat focal dystonia, a condition that forced him to relearn how he held the guitar. Since signing to Blue Note in 2021 he's put out Squint, View with a Room, Speak to Me and more. He also teaches at The New School in New York and plays in Bob Dylan's touring band.
