Julien Chauvin (FR)

About

Julien Chauvin is the kind of musician who builds orchestras the way other people change jobs. The French violinist from Fontainebleau co founded the Cercle de l'Harmonie in 2004 and the Cambini Paris Quartet in 2007, then in 2015 struck out on his own to launch the Concert de la Loge Olympique, an ensemble devoted to baroque, classical and romantic repertoire played on period instruments and gut strings. That commitment to historical performance practice runs through everything he does, whether he is working as a soloist, a chamber musician or a music director. His discography is substantial: eight recordings with the Cercle de l'Harmonie for Virgin Classics, Eloquentia and Ambroisie Naïve, plus five more with the Cambini Paris Quartet on the Timpani, MBF and Ambroisie Naïve labels. He also has an unusual side to his career, running training seminars for business leaders at INSEAD alongside Professor Ian Woodward since 2008.
