About
Also known as: J.D., J.D. Drews, Juergen Drews, Jürgen Ludwig Drews, Jürgend Drews, König von Mallorca, Onkel Jürgen, Uncle Jürgen
Jürgen Drews turned a cheeky title into a whole persona: after Thomas Gottschalk dubbed him the King of Majorca on Wetten, dass..?, he ran with it, even opening a bistro on the island packed with memorabilia and awards from his career. The music side is just as colourful. He played banjo in a Schleswig jazz band, did a stint in a psychedelic rock outfit, and landed in the Les Humphries Singers, who represented Germany at Eurovision in 1976 with Sing Sang Song. That same year he went solo and hit number one in Germany with Ein Bett im Kornfeld, a German take on the Bellamy Brothers' Let Your Love Flow. He even cracked the US Hot 100 once, as J.D. Drews with Don't Want No Body, which peaked at number 79. Alongside the singing he built up a long list of film and TV credits, from comedies to Die deutsche Schlagerparade. His songs, including Ein Bett im Kornfeld, are still all over his YouTube channel.
