About
JVG are a Finnish rap duo consisting of Jare Brand and Ville Petteri Galle, and their corner of the genre goes by a name that fits perfectly: sport rap. The two built their reputation on sharply comedic tracks about ice hockey, football, doping, NHL video games, and Finnish sports legends like Jari Litmanen and Teemu Selänne. A big chunk of their humour runs on East Helsinki slang, which can make their lyrics genuinely baffling to outsiders, and that local flavour is a huge part of their appeal. Their reach goes well beyond the average rap act though. On the first of May 2020, during the pandemic, JVG threw a virtual reality concert set inside a simulated Helsinki. Somewhere between 700,000 and over a million people tuned in, which puts most real world festival headliners to shame. Outside the duo, VilleGalle has racked up a long list of featured appearances alongside Finnish acts like Cheek, Antti Tuisku, and Teflon Brothers.
